AnotherLargest Wool Mill in the WorldBenjamin Gott Armley MillsI was always surprised at this since the mill did not seem that large compared to the larger Park Mill where the YEP building stands.

I thought the Armley Mill pre-dated the Bean Ing Mill and at "that" time was the largest though certainly superceded later by the Bean Ing which was massive (I'm surprised Hitler didn't ear mark this for potential barricks had he won the war)http://www.leeds.gov.uk/armleymills/Arm ... pxquote"In 1788 Armley Mills was bought by Colonel Thomas Lloyd who turned it into the world's largest woollen mill. Lloyd was a Leeds cloth merchant who had prospered and risen to become Deputy Lieutenant of the West Riding and Commander of the Leeds Volunteer Infantry. In 1804 Benjamin Gott agreed to buy Armley Mills from Colonel Lloyd, but in November 1805 the mill was almost entirely destroyed by fire."

I rememder that - think it was near the Physics department - had a slight kink in the middleAs a side note the Physics department had a lift device I've never seen any where else - A Paternoster - this was a moving ladder which you jumped on and it took you to the next floor - not sure what would happen if you failed to jump off.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PaternosterChecked the video - so that's how it worked!
