I've done that run once or twice myself, although we'd usually start at either the Old Red Lion or that John Smiths pub just off the spotted path (Birchfields? Birch Tree?) that I can't remember the name of.... Ever end up at The Devon? A good pub, but by 'eck is it bloody miles from any of the other pubs? A right trek up the Ring Road and left at the church, or a diversion through the ginnel and up the Kennerleighs. Mind you, I'm sure they used to move The Leodis further away on drinking nights too!

Ah you mean the Birch Tree!! Never did that on a crawl but been in there a few times in the past because I had family living up there in the Baildons.Haven't done the Devon either. Didn't know how to get to the next pub without a very long walk!!! lol (It was bad enough detouring from the Leodis to the Brown Cow!!)

There's still a nightrider, but it runs to Otley via Headingley and Pool now. I'm more of a last train man these days! The old 928 route up the A65 has been discontinued. I can remember some pretty terrifying experiences on that. We once missed our stop after being trapped at the back upstairs by a 20-man free for all involving a bunch of 'trendies' (our name for anyone who basically wasn't a metaller, goth, punk or mod). Another time a bunch of nutters were causing trouble so the police chucked them off, only for them to get a taxi and catch up with the bus at Kirkstall forge (now nearly gone, I see) after which they proceeded to beat the hell out of everyone with long hair on the top deck. I seriously considered diving out of the emergency exit, but happily they got off at Rawdon before they worked their way up to me. I noticed that in later years the bus was followed by a council van, presumably containing some heavy types to break up any trouble.

I remember going in Central Park, at back of Merrion about 20 years ago. We had to go up a spiral staircase and the bouncers used to look up our skirts (those were the days when I dared wear a short skirt). Cheap cocktails in there. Then down to what is now called Flares n I think was the Observatory? In me short skirt, very long sleeved lacey shirt, high boots (what a twat) I looked quite normal in there

I remember it being there when I was a kid, and someone at school's parents ran it for a while. Could actually be the Superdrug now, or the Indian restaurant on the same block...??? Mym - the pub you're thinkinking of was the 'Golden Cock' until the early 70s, then called the 'Precinct' til it closed in the 80s. There's apic of it on page 4 of the 'leeds lost pubs thread' and also more info and quite a discussion on a thread called 'Cockerel' on the 'signs and symbols' section of the forum.

I had a spell 2 years ago of going drinking around town, blimey!!! so many bars now!!!...I used to frequent the precinct a lot after it changed from the golden cock....now then....does anyone remember the snake pit????? i remember the snake pit well! next to the masons arms nr the scotsman,i think the wrestler-tiger del singh was the owner for a while.hey what about in to the gemini after the templar, then the legs and vine ,the yorkshire hussar, marquis of granby and then round to heaven and hell(now argos, previously green sheild stamps) for a fight........happy days!
