One of the most important inventions from Leeds was Matthew Murray's three-ported "D" slide valve, and the eccentric to drive it, effectively the birth of rotary steam engines . All rotative steam engines used it for many years, both stationary and locomotive. Murray also invented flax machinery, a boiler draught regulating device, an early mechanical stoker, hydraulic presses and chain testing machinery, and, of course, the first commercially practical steam locomotive.

Where's the modern Matthew Murray - Leeds centainly needs one.
