There is nothing wrong with a general chat section, but at least make it of some interest, and not just waffling for the sake of writing something. There is a thread just started today in general chat "Gritting in leeds". The first post was put in by mistake and edited to say : sorry wrong section. However five people then felt the necessity to comment, despite not really saying anything of interest. As one of those contributors to that thread it is nice to know that my post had nothing of interest. To you perhaps, but it was related to Leeds as some may find it of interest that for example the planet Jupiter was the bright object. I also raised a question about how it was known that gritting would be needed in Leeds, which I think is relevant. I most certainly was "not just waffling for the sake of writing something". In my opinion your post has only further addded to the unfriendliness that is occurring in the forum. I wouldn't feel downhearted Leodian.I'm pretty sure no one was directly having a go at you here. It was someone just highlighting a point of view, not a personal attack on you. We all can see your a genuine poster on this site. You see this is the trouble that happens when there is one antogonist at work. They leave all kinds of havoc in there wake. It's there idea of fun. As soon as the person responsible for this aggravation is booted from this site then i'm sure it will be a far better place for all.Your ok Leodian, no bother

Points have been made, those who wish to discuss the pros and cons further should address there thoughts to the people who can bring about change and give direction above that which is in place, the Site Administrators. Address your comments to there, the email address is on the site information pages.Let's get Secret Leeds back to what it was intended for

Well said, Chameleon, it's been a bit scary round here lately. Is it safe to come out from behind the sofa now? ;-)

I started that thread purely as a way of letting users know that there was a possibility of ice on the roads this morning(monday)LCC do not have any updates on their website regarding when roads are gritted,it was my intention to keep users regularly updated, obviously they would have to be viewing this site. The weather forecasters will tell you when it is going to be icy,you normally find that out for yourself when your on your backside.Thismay seem pointless to some,Why do we need someone to tell us the Gritters are out/will be out?Last year 2 radio stations in Leeds reported on more than one occasion that they had seen the Gritters out without contacting LCC.What they had actually seen were Gritters with SAND on that were attending oil spills at accidents involving motor vehicles which had absolutely nothing to do with weather conditions. Now I know an audience on here is possibly only around 60 or 70 users who may or may not drive early morning but I can honestly say my intentions were sincere. However I see your point as regards trivial postings and trivial answers I therefore apologise and would ask the moderators to remove this thread as soon as they see fit.

I think you underestimate the number of folk reading these posts Leedslad, the figure you see on the left is just the number logged-in, you can still view the postas even if not logged in.I didn't see anything wrong with the info - quite public spirited really, not everyone looks out ar notices the weather before actually venturing out the next day. You certainly don't know whether a road has been treated or not, often you'll be told 'main roads are clear,,, only to find they forgot to mention it can be imossible to reach them from the minor roads or, worse still, be able to get out aut not back in again.Last year our eastate access, a moderate incline was finally given help. The gritter started upwards and promptly slid back down the hill again; novel but effective approach then was for him to turn round and reverse up, laying himself a path of salt to achieve this. ( There after when we went out, Mrs C was entrenched in the boot complete with sack of grit should we encounter the same problem somewhere ).
