The link works fine. It's a great picture and some interesting pictures on at the picture houses then. In the 1950s (many years after the picture was taken) I used to often go to the Hillcrest cinema on Harehills Lane. I notice also that Hunslet had a match at Parkside. I used to run past that ground when doing cross country runs when I was at Cockburn High School in the mid to late 1950's. I may be wrong but I think Parkside was demolished many years back.

The reason the Hunslet match is advertised is firstly the club felt it was a club for all of Leeds hence they adopted the University colours. In the 60's all three Leeds clubs advertised their games in the buses.Secondly East Leeds people did go watch Hunslet because they were the local club. I know swedish people travel to United home games but in those days it was different!!!!Parkside was a costly ground for a club who had hit poor times. The story goes that the club directors found out how much the land was worth and decided to sell it and build a new ground on Middleton Lane by the cemetary close to their original ground. This was a nasty business, because of the value of the ground it is alleged the directors would not allow anyone to buy shares in the club to boost the club. People who wanted to help the club had their cheques returned inclusing a local butcher who was very angry about it. In 1973 the club sold out to Lenton Properties but to the fans dismay the new ground was not built. Fred Bartlett was a Director but to be fair to him he put his cut back into Junior RL in the area............
