I remember collecting a prescription for Kaolin & Morphine for my dad from Barny Feeman’s chemists in Crossgates. You had to give it a good shake before use as it settled out into some chalky gunk in the bottom of the bottle and the liquid on the top. I can't remember if it was a pinkish colour, or am I confusing it with Windowlene?

It was green and slimy but again it drew the badness out of the skin and did the job. Could it have been Wintergreen ointment i seem to remember that name i could be wrong.
No matter were i end my days im an Hunslet lad with Hunslet ways.

Kaolin and morphine mixture contains two active ingredients, light kaolin and morphine hydrochloride.Morphine hydrochloride is a type of medicine called an opioid. In high doses it is a strong painkiller, but it also has anti-diarrhoeal actions. This medicine contains a low dose of morphine that is not a painkiller and is used purely for its anti-diarrhoeal effect. In treating diarrhoea, morphine works by acting on opioid receptors that are found in the muscles lining the walls of the intestines. This reduces the muscular contractions of the intestine (called peristalsis) that move food and faecal matter through the gut. The speed at which the gut contents are pushed through the intestines is therefore reduced, allowing more time for water and electrolytes to be reabsorbed from the gut contents back into the body. This results in firmer stools that are passed less frequently. Light kaolin is an absorbent substance. It is insoluble and is not absorbed into the bloodstream. Instead it acts locally in the intestines, where it absorbs toxins and helps make the stools less liquid. This can relieve mild diarrhoea.

Must say I always wondered about the legality of this stuff - though I can recommend it - gives you a warm feeling inside.

As it was a seperation, you could drop a straw into the bottle and suck up a dose of morphine. A favoured "recreation" of students in my day. Also, STICKS, I read all the hullabaloo about general chat etc and I was pretty convinced that there is aroom for way off topic stuff on any forum. Then you go and start a thread about medication from byegone days, unconnected to either Leeds or Family History, in the Family History section.
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.
