Kaolin

Can anyone remember Kaolin ? if you had an apcess your mam or dad boiled hot water then put the tin of Kayleen in for 20 mins then out came the lint, the Kayleen was placed on it then put on the apcess it worked and it hurt.

I remember that Sticks.it is actually Kaolin and we still have some left in a tin here! we used to use it on our dogs when we showed them.a dab on the ears made them tip lovely!oops giving away secrets now<G>.

Aha, the good old kaolin poultice! I knew it well.ISTR kaolin was also used as a medicine, possibly in combination with something else, to either encourage the bowels, or to "seal" them during attacks of diarrhoea. I think it was probably the latter? Can anyone else recall? Kaolin was very likely a constituent of "the potty" that was a handy utensil if the bowels were out of kilter and the privy was outside

This subject rouses the old forgettory. I seem to remember that the medicine was always separated out into it's constituents, with the liquid component floating above the white powder. It took serious shaking of the bottle to remix the stuff. I was told that the white powder was basically dried China Clay.On reading this reply as I typed it, my missus asked what the subject was, on being told "Kaolin" instantly said "Kaolin and morphine, often produced unknowing drug addicts."As a poultice it was heated, and kept it's temperature for a long time, thus drawing the boil. Quite painful as I recall. As a cure for "the squits" I suppose one would have to hope it didn't achieve high temperature, or the results would, shall we say, be overdone!
