Gridlocked?

As the man who sat on a cushion said " I sit corrected"., Apologies for doing down our fine cityStudiously avoided the rumourmill that is wikipedia when i looked at this and itstill cme up with us in 4th. As i can now prove otherwise i shall give a mate who went to the dark side over there a torrent of abuse.Re the M1 roadworks, i am up and down 2-3 times a week and there are now 3 sets, just before meadowhall, just after, and then as i think Trojan mentioned, the infamous jct28 ones... thank god for cruise control.

It can only be hoped that penalty clauses on the contractor working on the Armley gyratory would bankrupt them if lane restrictions are still applied next Monday because if the lane restrictions are still in place Leeds may as well shutdown next week as the all day gridlock would have the same effect.Traffic reports suggest that, in light half term traffic, morning and evening west bound tailbacks are as far back as Claypit Lane on the inner ring road and back down to Sheepscar junction. At just after 4.30 last night Westgate and the Headrow as far back as Park Row was nose to tail and this had the knock on effect of tailbacks up past the courthouse back on to Great George Street, Calverley Street and Portland Way and presumably well back down East Parade on the loop.All this on top of the sabotaging of the M621 which has been sneaked in and is badly affecting the only other major option for south west bound traffic. I had seen a sign notifying of overnight closures to the M621 West Bound slip at junction 3 and had thought the “free recovery encampment” at junction 4 was overkill for this but was still surprised to see lane closures on Sunday between the junction 3 and junction 1. I was even more surprised when they were still in place yesterday morning causing congestion all the way back beyond junction 7 and on the A61. According to this http://www.bbc.co.uk/leeds/travel/roads_feature.shtml its there until next March and will be pretty much the worst traffic incident on that list until then. Even last night, again in light half term traffic, the tailback caused by the single westbound lane from junction 3 was affecting the junction 7 onslip. They will need “get in lane” signs back just after junction 7 for this not to cause complete and utter chaos from next week.

The headline in the YEP today is "GRIDLOCKED!". In the accompanying report it states "MOTORISTS were today warned they face at least FIVE days of traffic misery on key commuter routes in Leeds" (the capitalised words are as in the report).

God help any one travelling to/from Farnley, Armley,Bramley Pudsey this week and the foreseeable future.M621Kirkstall Rd Gyratory Dragon BridgeCanal RdBramley Town St Who in the Traffic Planning Dept.was let loose on West Leeds?If this lot had been going on 6 weeks ago when the Street lights were being done on Stanningley Rd anyone livinin West Leeds would have gone crazy.What planet are these Planners on?

Headingley was mental yesterday due to the Kirkstall Road work. Backed up Kirkstall Lane as far as the Taps and Cardigan Road as far as Kirkstall lane. Inner Ring road was locked as well. To get back to Armley I went via Sheepscar and Holbeck. Dragon bridge was OK by then.
