Noticed 2 new? taxi ranks while driving through town this morning.First one from Asda HQ towards Old Red Lion pub,and a second on Lower Briggate outside Dyson's chambers, which is 2 vehicles wide.Don't know how that will affect traffic in rush hour, not wide enough now for 2 lanes of traffic heading for traffic lights on Boar Lane, especially if they're buses!.

It was back to the irresponsible blocking back to city square of cabs queing to access New Station Street in last nights rush hour. I've been told that Boar Lane was "blocked" again this evening when I picked mrs ravey up from work.

I was ready to blame the taxis me'sen bu tto be fair there were very few taxis on Boer Lane and when the bus I was on eventually turned right into Mill Hill the log jam was on past Duncan Street and onto Vicar Lane. There was also a gridlock on the Headrow eastbound possibly due to Taxis and on Great Wilson Street eastbound from Victoria Road to Crown Point Road. I therefore suspect the major cause was an incident or traffic signal failure between Crown Point Bridge and East Gate/Regent Street or very close vicinity

Merrion Street to the junction with New Briggate - there is a small taxi stand just before the lights. This is the looproad. By that point, traffic has been directed into one of three lanes to maximise smooth flow, left for North Street and inner ring road, centre to contiue round the loop and right to join the vicar lane busgate. Some bright spark has know designated this taxi stand as 24hour. Other than that, stopping/ loading restrictions apply as elsewhere on the loop in the spirit of keeping moving. Yup, traffic everywhere trying to negotiate the suddenly obstructed lane at a crucil point a short distance before the traffic lights. Well Done.

That'll be the one that was their for kicking out time at Harvey's/Purple Leopard and Mr Craigs/Europa or whatever they are called thee days. Wouldn't have been a problem during those hours but I suspect it will be 7.00am - 9.00pm weekdays. It will probably have been the idea of the same clown who decided to bottleneck the loop at Bishopgate Street tooo. (4 more posts for my millennium)

I've got to put my two penneth in about the taxi's!I frequent a club on Brick Street now and then, and you can guarentee that when you come out, the taxi drivers are all from Huddersfield, Morley, Batley etc and are all private hire cabs. They barter with you for ridiculous prices (quoted anything between £10-15 for a journey up York Road to Killingbeck)!! The only time I have used one the cheeky beggar ran out of petrol opposite the Irish Centre, I asked him to send for another cab to be told because he was from Morley he couldnt get one to me, made me get out, pay him £2 for a 1 minute journey and let me walk up York Road at 1am on my own!! I called my local firm, explained what had happened and the very nice operator made me stay on the phone with her until they had sent a car out for me..I live in a relatively well known area of Leeds, if anything just off one of the main road, and the amount of times I have to tell a driver my postcode or direct him is unbelievable, and this is using a local firm!! I dont care if a driver isnt of UK/Leeds origin, just as long as he has a decent idea of where he is going! And dont get me started about the 3 hour wait for taxi's in Leeds on Black Eye Friday in Dec...

These days many of the private hire drivers are 'commuter workers' known to come daily to Leeds from anywhere between Newcastle and Nottingham! The only way they can get you where you want to be is by relying on sat-nav, thus the postcode
