Google street view is herehttp://snipurl.com/16dyegBest crop edit job i can do till i get my own shot i'm afraid.Shot taken looking in the other direction. Neither the building, or the bridge exist these days. It's interesting to see that side of the bridge was noticeably longer.
My flickr pictures are herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/Because lunacy was the influence for an album. It goes without saying that an album about lunacy will breed a lunatics obsessions with an album - The Dark side of the moon!

There was another bridge relic extant in the area until comparatively recently. The short section of this beck from Holbeck Lane to Springwell Road was covered in, probably around 1980, and grassed over. The brick wall over the bridge survived another ten to fifteen years here on the north side of Holbeck Lane at its junction with Water Lane in splendid isolation for some reason, a fact I pondered on a daily basis on my way to work.I wonder if those who park daily on the grassed over patch realise what lies beneath?By the way, Phill, I reckon that the reason for the "long" bridge girder in your east-facing photo is a combination of a slight dog-leg in the course of the beck, coupled with a y-junction of the roads above the bridge.

Low Beck made me wonder about the name Holbeck, which I assumed is named after a Hol Beck. Not knowing that much about Holbeck I've just looked at some information in Wikipedia and found that it is named after Hol Beck, which is apparently still there.I also found this "In the 18th century Holbeck was known for its spa water, which resembled that of Harrogate, and was carried into Leeds for sale. The supply diminished when numerous wells were sunk to supply the mills and works in the area and the water, which previously rose to the surface, could only be obtained by pumping from a considerable depth". I wonder if Holbeck Spa waters are surfacing now that underground water is presumably not taken?Apologies for digressing from the main subject of the thread.

The tiny Cinema (cin.) shown on the map above on Willoughby Crescent was called the 'Gem'. Remarkably it was only a cinema for 4 years (1912 -1916) but the building survived as a printing works till 1980 (Info from Robert Preedy)

I'll give you detectives something to go at if your bored with nothing better to do. Any ideas why? No doubt it may come in useful on some of the other threads we've covered on S.L. There is a skewed opening in the viaduct where the footpath runs from Holbeck to Leeds, we spoke about this on another thread.
