It's definitely an LCT bus as the crest on the side can clearly be seenIn the background there are the offices of Prudential and a pub called The Bull - any idea where this might have been as I didn't recognise it (although to be fair, I wasn't around when it was filmed!)?Apologies if this has already been covered. franco wrote: Hi Ravey. I could be wrong but i think the scene you mentioned was filmed at Wakefield Westgate. Try the website Reel Streets, British film locations. I think there's a still of the scene you described. Thanks Franco - did LCT get as far as Wakefield?I've just run the scene back again - if it helps the bus is a number 66 with City Square on the destination board - under which it states "Beckett Street, City Square, Wellington Road".It's actually The Bull Hotel in the background to give it the full title. I'm sure the scene was filmed on Boar Lane, AFAIK LCT had no services that ran to Wakefield. The rugby scenes in This Sporting Life were filmed at Wakefield's Belle Vue, the fight outside Wakefield Mecca (not there any more) one of the after match scenes at Halifax's Thrum Hall (not there any more) and there is a wedding scene towards the end of the film, that was filmed at St Pauls Drighlington.

Later - IMdb says it's Westgate in Wakefield. But I don't think it is.

I've just had a look at Wakey Westgate on Google Street View and I'm fairly sure that isn't the correct location (IMDB states that the location has barely changed).I've watched it again and I think it is The Headrow - possibly the confusion about Westgate is that the scene is looking in the direction of Westgate down the Headrow with the Methodist church being clearly visible (I think). A near identical view can be achieved on Street View (allowing for a few more trees and some more modern building).I've captured a few images which I think back this up and have posted them here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8964340@N0 ... 026412352/(Sorry - you'll have to cut and paste that link as I still haven't thought of a name for my flickr account!)What would help clinch it is if any older contributors could remember where The Bull Hotel or the offices of the Prudential were in Leeds. I can recall that the Pru had several offices in Leeds city centre as late as the late 80's/ early 90's, so any help here would be appreciated!

Hi - Just tried Leodis - opening page City Centre - Bull Hotel and it came up with a pic of a pub named the Bull and Prudential Insurance Office next door. It isn't in the City centre though. Don't know if I'm being helpful. Just a try.

Is not the key to this one Raveydavey's identification of the bus as displaying "No.66, Beckett Street, City Square, Wellington Road"?For many years this was the Leysholme Estate to Harehills Road ( Roundhay Road end ) service. It ran via Greenhill Lane, Oldfield Lane, Wellington Road, and Wellington Street to City Square which it crossed directly in front of the Post Office. Then for a period it ran Infirmary Street - East Parade - Headrow, for another period via Park Row. From the Headrow the route was Eastgate, New York Road, Burmantofts Street, Beckett Street, and so into Harehills Road. This should at least narrow down the field for working out where the scene was shot!Over to the pub history experts - or, ( should we have any ) the experts on insurance company sites.

Cheers Jim, - that fits with my thoughts, so it looks more like it is on The Headrow by the minute!

Hello again. I hope this doesn't confuse matters as the general opinion seems to be that the scene was filmed in Leeds. However i must again refer to the photos on the" Reel Streets" website. They do look pretty conclusive to me. Wakefield Westgate. Then again it wouldn't be the first time I've been proved completely wrong.

Not necessarily agreeing with Franco but the bus was "a prop" and while it and its destination board may have been authentic its location may well have been far from that route. If you watch "the Damned United" the training ground of Derby County was just down from the Nosters on "the quarry" overlooking Elland Road

Yes, I agree with Tyke Bhoy. As someone who has a little experience of working in the film business, the scene would not be filmed using a "real" bus, as there are too many things that can go wrong. It is a prop, and just happens to have that particular destination board. I don't know Wakefield Westgate, but, having looked at Davey's stills, I'm pretty sure it's not the Headrow. Could be wrong though.
