I have been researching a Polish airman who was seriously injured twice in WW2. He spent time at Harewood House on one of these occasions. One injury was serious burns and the other was for wounds in action. Can anyone tell me which is most likely to have got him into Harewood House. In fact can anyone tell me anything about the place as a hospital? Many thanks

During the Second World War, the house was effectively divided between hospital and family use. Extra partition walls were put up and protective boards were placed in many of the rooms.Nurses, orderlies, kitchen staff and officers fraternised freely, despite the Colonel and Matron’s best attempts to keep them apart. Once a week there was a film showing in the Dining Room and dances for officers well enough to attend were also held with the help of a gramophone. Princess Mary would sometimes attend these dances and dance alongside the nurses with a lucky officer.http://www.bbc.co.uk/legacies/work/engl ... tmlRegards.

Hello Archivist, I am the official stick maker for the Harewood House. I read where part of the house was turned into an hospital in war time, if you require further information on Harewood just ask.

Sticks,Thanks for your reply. I am trying to find out about the hospital at Harewood House as the airman I am researching spent time there recuperating after being shot down. Once he was badly burned and once he suffered serious gunshot wounds but I don't know which would bring him to Harewood House or exactly when he was therearchivist
