Shoot me down in flames rikj, but I think you're No. 1 idea is correct.This would mean the buildings you can see are on Wellington Road(i.e - opposite the engine shed as you say) - between Canal Street and Armley Road - the white building at the Right hand edge is part of the 'White Horse' at the Junction with Armley Road. This is a Leodis pic from the late 50s early60s of the row of shops and the White Horse that I think is what you can see under the bridge -.It would also mean the original caption is correct in saying 'Gelderd Road' - which is probably more likely to be right than not.Whaddya think?

No it can't possibly be pictured on Geldered rd as one of those bridges is a skew stone arch even to this day

Well I think it is , Phill - the part of Gelderd Road that has now been totally lost under the Gyratory - That row of buildings under the bridge is surely the same as the pic I found in Leodis.

This is the bridge from the other side - a better pic of the 'Appleyard for Morris'ad on the bridge that has since been dismantled. This is looking South-south west - the pic in the original query looking North-north-eastThis is from 1932 -showing alterations to take place apparently

You can deffinately wipe Gelderd road out of the running as that led into Holbeck high level station which was of course owned by the Great Northern Railway. Riks pic has the Midland railway notice board which is 100% Midland railway company meaning the only 2 entrances to Holbeck low level were on Whitehall road & Wellington road! Gelderd rd is out!

Take a look at Geldered road bridge to this day. It is a stone skew arch. That method of bridge construction was abandoned long before 1915 for railway bridges! I can't see any stone skew arch on Riks pic!

That means it has to be on Whitehall road because in 1915 there was no less than 10 tracks ran over Wellington road for the gas works sidings. A total of 3 bridges in all. You can still see it today. There's only 2 bridges on the 1st pic!

The point work where the sidings opened up to the gas works holding area that ran over 3 bridges on Wellington road. I can count at least 10 tracks here!

When you say 'Gelderd Road Bridge' do you mean the one on the south side of the Gyratory? - if so thats not the one I mean - I mean the one on the North side of the gyratory - near the 'Round foundry' - this spanned Gelderd Road (the very end of Gelderd Road) and Wellington Road. If you think this is not correct - where do you reckon the picture was taken from with regards to Rikj's map - and what are those buildings under the arch and why are they the same as in the Leodis pic I put up?.

Red dot no 2. I'll put money on it BIG TIME. I can go to the library & get an arial pic to solve this matter once & for all. I can only mean Gelderd road where a railway bridge connected to the Holbeck stations. There were no station near the round foundry. Infact the name Holbeck station is a bit of a joke as they wern't actually in Holbeck.
