Hi Aeldfrith,I don't recall the book shop ever being a pub, but what is now Superdrug used to be the New Inn. What is now the book shop used to be Barratt's shoe shop'. There is a picture on Leodis in the 1950's and the premises were a Gallons shop at that time. Also, I believe that the Leeds House Cafe used to be a pub a very long time ago.Ian

Whoa there boys!!!!Any Otley/pub queries you may have should be more than covered here;http://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/Mess ... eadID=1462
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

In those days they did really wholesome and delicious home cooked lunches for a very moderate price.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I didn't know of the Otley thread. I was discussing the merits of Otley's pubs past and present with a friend and the pub now known as the "New Inn" came up. I now realise I didn't even get the location correct!

Hi stutterdog,I am well aware of Drapesy's thread on Otley pubs, and all the work that he has put into it. My reply to Aeldfrith was in answer to a query about the Just Books bookshop and whether or not it was a pub in the 1980's which it was not. I mentioned the Leeds House Cafe and Superdrug as these were the only other pubs in the Market square in 'recent times'.Ian

I was a bit frustrated as we seemed to be covering ground already covered in Drapesey's thread.

Hi Stutterdog,No problems. I suppose that on a any forum/discussion group there is bound to be duplication, not only from new members, but from established members also, who do not recall or follow a particular thread. It is very easy to make a quick response to a query on something that you know about without checking the 'search facility' every time. In any case, on some particular topics, there are so many items that show up on a 'search' that it would take hours to look through them all. With 'human nature' being what it is, the odd quick reply to a query is the simple and most time saving option, even if it subsequently transpires that there is duplication. This is not the first time that this has happened and, rightly or wrongly, it will definitely not be the last.Ian

It doesn't help that the site's search facility is less use than a chocolate teapot. Its fine if there is only one thread with 20 posts but when its the skulls or lost pubs thread you have to wade through 40+pages. The world's favourite (alledgedly) search engine usually does better e.g. one that I pointed out duplication on yesterdayhttp://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&client=fi ... afe=images
