The picture classification [X; H; A; B; C etc.], meant that to get into a cinema showing a film that classified it as ,accompanied by an adult only. We kids by the score would be dashing up to every complete stranger that approached the cinema, with a "will you take us in please".?Often it was " If I do , you go sit somewhere else when your'e in". This was more likely if it were a courting couple you had asked. They were the best to ask. The lad was showing off to the girlfriend how 'sympatico' he was.         Sign of the times Farbank..but I'd be PETRIFIED if I knew my lad were to ask a total stranger to take him into the cinema, these days! These days, it'd be "only if you sit on my knee"?

Just to lighten up - I was back in Leeds the past weekend for a party...we ended up at The Arc, on North Lane Headingley...which used to be part of the cinema there (WHAT was that cinema called?)...very posh and yuppy...beer at over £4 a pint!!! We had a great time tho, tekkin the pish out of the clientele!

Did I get some genuine information many, many moons ago. When someone told me that the Harehills Picture House was the first cinema in the whole of Leeds, to show a 'talkie'.? [The Jazz Singer, I believe].

Apologies if i've missed the post already but does anyone know what the picture house was on Florence street, Harehills Leeds 9. was called? It's roughly where the council tip is. The lower part of the wall is still visible opposite the Labour club!

Shown on one of the previous postings. The picture house on Florence St. was called The Western. The 'booking office' [not that anybody ever did], was on Harehills Ln. Just higher up than the old Con Club.
