I pass this nearly every day and for the life of me cannot think why a motorway style crash barrier has found its way onto a quiet backstreet road??http://snipurl.com/10bcjyIts not even that busy,Ok its sometimes used as a rat run but so is nearly every other contributory to york road so what gives??Can anyone shed any light on this for me?? Its even got a split in the middle as if it would be a real hike to walk round the chuffing thing lol RIDICULOUS if you ask meTotal waste of money.
There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.

It's not the only place either Brandy. It runs nearly the whole length of Boggart Hill Gardens (Only the street car hasn't gone down that road) You can still see some of it herehttp://snipurl.com/10be0i

It looks like something similar just installed at the Ring Road Millshaw, and at a lot of concrete overbridge stanchions. Is there by any chance a bit of a drop at the other side ? Could be to do with the EU and 44 tonne lorries.
We wanted to make Leeds a better place for the future - but we're losing it. The tide is going out beneath our feet.

The split in the middle must be for emergency services to access the overturned car on the other side of the barrier Brandy

I can only think Phill's joke is closer to reality. Presumably there is a history of left turning traffic taking the corner too fast and ending up on the banking. It doesn't appear to afford much protection to pedestrians though until they are well round the corner coming from the left.

Does the pavement look to have been widened, or in effect made the road smaller from this view here?http://snipurl.com/10c08hI would assume that used to be a wide curve at one time, possibly wide enough to make people think they had a right of way, or there was no junction perhaps? Any thoughts it being a traffic calming measure?

Yes definitelyBoy racers have been belting down here, cutting that corner, and nearly running folk down on the pavement i would say.http://snipurl.com/10c15c

From that angle out of control vehicles are more likely to be guided down the path a-la guided busways
