A friend in the town told me that on Monday or Tuesday the staff of the nereby Sainsbury's were treated to a free meal in a test run of the catering - a rather novel initiative.

Just leaves the Leodis now. Can't say I was too fond of the Woodman, been there a few times and didn't feel too comfortable.

I can think of one fairly large "black hole". Since the Chained Bull went the vicinity of Moortown Corner must be about a mile from anything.Allerton to the northQueens Arms to the SouthPub at the Moor Allerton Centre to the North WestDeer Park to the EastIs/was it the Lingfield just off Lidgett lane and is it still open south east. There must still be a pub in Shadwell to the North East but can't remember one.Westerly I suspect you are in Meanwoodand south westerly probably Stainbeck although I strugggle to think of a pub still open in eother of those vicinity's.

The Allerton is now called Leeds Seventeen and (as far as I know as I've not been in) is no longer a pub as such but is a restaurant.

There were lots of people sat out the front of the Bowling Green last night, as I passed in the car. Was it a pre-opening press event, or summat similar?

Hi Si,Apparently, it had been advertised (possibly to local businesses) that people could go and have a look around the Bowling Green. The ones that did were given a voucher to go for a drink/meal last night. I know someone (the manageress of the Otley Gym) who went and had a very nice evening. She was very impressed with the refurbishment and stated that it had been very 'tastefully' done. No doubt the pub will be packed out all day today. I hope that the tables and chairs are either fastened down or taken in at night otherwise the 'Otley idiots' will take or wreck them. Here is a bit more information:http://www.wharfedaleobserver.co.uk/new ... pening/Ian

The True Briton in Stainbeck Road is still alive and kicking.
