Well it is an eyesore of a building and the temperature gauge is always wrong.Pity about the jobs though and YEP is a LEEDS paper really.BTW, talking about eyesores, what is happening about the International pool since it was closed last year. Nothing seems to be happening there at all but the lights are on all the time.

The pool is in the process of being stripped out, ready for demolition I believe. As to the YEP building, yes it is an eyesore, but I think it should stand, as a monument to bad 60's design. There aint many such buildings left, thank god and this one really stands out now and, imho, should be kept for posterity. It's alone and because it's so bad, it's looking good! Is that wierd?

The Lights are on all the time because no one can figure out all the switches in the places since the maintenance guy left. That's what the guy from the council told me when he showed me round anyway. They took a look in the electrical room and said. mmm. think we'll leave stuff alone here.

It was funny going round with him. I'd never met him before and I was telling him I liked to capture the 'behind the scenes' stuff. I did railway tunnels, air raid shelters and derelict buildings. He then said someone had sent his work coleague a link to these guys who had been in this old railway tunnel at Gildersome that very morning . It's bloody amazing he said. I live near there and never even knew about it. My mate loves the pic and has one as his screen saver. ha ha. glad you like it I said, there mine. After that he was great, He let us go on the roof and everywhere

Am I alone in failing to see the value in or the purpose of a so called "Evening" paper which must be printed by 9am as it is on the streets by 10 am.Contrary to some opinions expressed above I would be more annoyed if the Yorkshire Post moved away from Leeds

My first job out of school was at the YEP - I was in the Albion Street building for three weeks, then they moved to Wellington Street. I was working the day Prince Charles performed the opening ceremony. There was a special bog prepared for him, the story went round at the time. Red velvet seat. Fancy. Now, Albion Street was a much more fascinating building, what I saw of it. Just like the old style office buildings you see in ancient black and white films. Although the news editor didn't wear a green eye shade. There were some real characters there. Any road up, I was going to point out that for a few years in the seventies, the official name of the paper WAS the Evening Post [Leeds]. And I think I'm right in saying it just said Evening Post on the front. But it didn't catch on and eventually it went back to YEP.

A joke I was sent Quote: After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York (USA) scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and theorized the existence of a telephone network 100 years ago.Not to be outdone by America, a retired doctor living near London dug to a depth of 20 feet in his garden, and amazingly found traces of copper also. His exploits were published in the London thereafter, and it read: "Retired physician finds incontrovertible evidence British telecommunications predated the War of 1812." Not to be outdone by a Londoner, Yorkshire made its own contribution to the advancement of archaeological discovery a short time later. The town commissioned Charles Sickels, an unemployed excavator, to dig to a depth of 30 feet. He uncovered, in a word, nothing. This prompted the Yorkshire Post and the Huddersfield Daily Examiner to both run separate pieces trumpeting that 300 years ago, Yorkshire had already gone completely wireless. Of course part of the joke that would bypass most who have seen it is this is just the sort of thing the YEP is likely to print without double checking.

They've had the cheek to put the price upfrom 42p to 45p.Even more expensive to read again what you'vealready read in the morning paper nationally or for a report of what happened locally a week previous.
