I had completely forgotten about these fountains ( or taps) until you jogged my memory but I now have a very vague recollection of drinking from them. Public drinking fountains in parks were more important in those days when nobody would dream of buying or carrying bottled water around with them all the time and dehydration was something you got crossing the Sahara not playing cricket on Harehills park. Now that everybody under 50 can't jog for half a mile without swigging overpriced water from a plastic bottle, which then becomes a disposal problem, I can understand why the local authorities no longer maintain the public drinking fountains. But I fail to see why the councils have done away with the public loos the Victorians and Edwardians thoughtfully provided. IPLAYED CRICKET AND FOOTBALL ON THE PARK BETWEEN 1948&58 AND NEVER SAW ANY TAP IF THERE WAS ONE IT WOULDNT HAVE LASRED FIVE MINUTES. Maybe I'm suffering from false memory syndrome!
It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

That would be convenient. ASDA are to rebrand Neto as ASDA Outlets - whatever that means. This development was noted somewhere on here a while ago together with thestart of development for what is thought to be an Aldi on the site of the old 'Seacroft' opposite the Neto on Barwick Road at Seacroft.
