Apologies if this gets anyone's back up, but as an occasional reader, I don't understand what all the fuss is about with this??Did something awful happen here once?So there's an old village that housed tearaways, and now it's derelict, what is it about this that upsets people? Or is there something major I am not understanding here??My mum works for the pupil referral service, and so deals with a lot of bad kids, and will probably have dealt with kids from here at some point, which I suppose fuels my curiosity somewhat.Again, not meaning to offend etc. just don't get it? I've noticed there's been posts removed from people etc. but as I don't get to read the site every day, I never saw them. It's more a case of what happened on here, rather than up there so to speak. I'm afraid a contributor took the discussion rather personally Doggers, causing quite some upset - let's just say it's a good job this is virtual rather than face-to-fac if you follow.Mention of it does make us all shudder a little but at the same time we can find some entertainment in it now. Much of the udesirable material has been removed from the threads. If you look in the contents of 'Buildings and Structures' and at the bottom change to 'all threads' you should find a few bits at the end - enjoy the readNote to Brandy - worm tablets at the ready mate

It had all the facilites needed for working with young people in care, from its own garage, joiners, electricians workshops to its own farm. The place really worked and the staff were ok, must have cost a fortune to run, but was well worth it. To the extent where I have now developed a charity that work with disadvantaged young people and young people excluded from education, which is very successful and is based on the model and ethos of this old school. I have fond memories of this place and it should be returned back into its former use Well I never....Tearaways eh? I was on of those and in there 1963-1964. I had come from a really bad background and finished up there as a lad with no hope or direction. There was a motor mechanics class there in a very small garage run by Boss Smith. I signed apprentice papers and passed my 1st Year Union of Lancashire and Cheshire institutes exam in motor engineering. Boss Smith, among others, managed to get me into Wallace Arnolds on Hunslet Rd to carry on my apprenticeship. I finished up with an HND in motor engineering. I later got married[still am] and have kids and grandkids...none have ever been in trouble.

Hi Ray, there were a few threads developed on this topic which statered in all inocence and shoule have attracted conversation in a similar vein however, we encountered one individual who seemingly could not see beyond the blinkers and could not consider any opinon other than his own omnipient stand on matters, so.... it is actually very refreshing to read bits and pieces from the 'other side' which do add so perspective to what has gone before. Needless to say, it's good to hear of people coming out on top too - helps control afore mentioned worms!

Thanks for the so-quick feedback. There are many, many people out there that see a bad kid and decide in their wisdom that he/she was 'born bad'. Like these vicious dogs that attack at will the same opinion abounds. The kids and the dogs all had 'owners' that allowed/coaxed/trained them that way. I was lucky that someone in Eastmoor saw this wayward ex-grammar school kid who, when allowed, progressed and did good things...I didn't become 'good' immediately and, in fact, the transformation took a very long time but I came out the other end of that dark tunnel a better person and have since used my experiences to help other 'born bad' people. Thanks again Dude.R
