Does anyone know if there are any photos of Grey Walk anywhere ? I've looked on Leodis but all they have is a picture of Salem Place with a passageway that leads to Grey Walk. Grey Walk was eventually swallowed up by Tetleys expansion possibley in the 50's so I assumed there would be some photographic evidence of it somewhere on the interweb . Regards.

Can't find any photos, but here it is on the 1908 OS map. Running south-east from Salem Place, it crosses South Brook Street and runs parallel to Grey Walk Terrace beyond Crown Point Road, ending at Hunslet Lane.

Here it is on the bigger scale 1847 map. Ward's Court (where the Leodis picture was taken) is marked. Note how Aire Street has become Hunslet Road. Grey Walk looks like an ancient right-of-way, like Wade Passage and Back Lane on previous threads. Click on the maps to enlarge.

SPLAY=FULL     That leodis photo is the one that I mentioned in my first post and it seems to be the only one of Grey Walk on their site ! I can't believe that Grey Walk did not have any photos taken of it especially when it was demolition time as there seems to be loads of pictures on leodis of streets with measuring sticks against houses just prior to knocking them down (the houses not the sticks). Maybe they just haven't got around to putting them on the site yet.Regards.

Here's a piece I found from the YEP, 8th January 2008."...Streets and alleys are also being built over and removed from the maps - an example is Grey Walk, which apparently extended from Salem Place, across South Brook Street and Black Bull Street to its junction with Hunslet Lane, somewhere opposite Butterley Street. This Grey Walk was reportedly a very old right of way and was never encroached upon, until Tetleys Brewery redeveloped the area and covered it up in the late 80s. The latest that it would seem is about to disappear is the original Bowman Lane entrance, near the Adelphi pub. At the moment the original street sign is still there on the wall, next to building works for yet more flats - but for how long..."

Not exactly but Blayd's yard backed on it and may give you a feel for what it was like.http://www.leodis.org/searchResults.asp ... D=&PUBID=0

I have the 1815 map and Grey Walk appears right on the bottom edge and there appear to be buildings there then but it's hard to know if they were houses or farm buildings.Regards.

1935, Blayd's Court, off Grey Walk. This Leodis pic that Cardiarms found, shows a building of interesting architectural design (to me, anyway!)
