Grumpus Trampus.Go on Leodis and look up Boyles Quarry, there you may be able to match the windows, lintels and chimneys of Ainstey Terrace, Burmantofts which this picture could be.It looks more like Burmantofts than Hunslet. Boyles Quarry supplied the firecaly for Burmantofts Brickworks.Anyone else agree?? Chameleon??

...and Grumpy Tramp's quarry shot, with the houses showing, for comparison.

This is one of many photos of Boyle's Quarry, Burmantofts, taken by famous Leeds photographer Terry Cryer, and posted on Leodis. I tried to pick one with a terrace on it.

I know there's very little to go on in GTs' pic, but I don't think it's Ainsty Terrace...at least not the bits shown on Leodis. If you look at the lintels of the upper windows, they are a different shape - Ainsty Terrace's have vertical ends, whereas the ones on GT's pic are angled out. This doesn't mean it isn't Burmantofts, though!

Looking at Leodis images of the Hillidge Road area mentioned by Grumpy Tramp earlier, reveals lintels like these curved types...

...or these shallow brick arch types. I couldn't find any that match the ones in GT's quarry pic.I think trying to identify the street from the little evidence available, would be like trying to find a very small needle in a very big haystack, TBH.

"Illogical captain" and just the sort of thing that drives me mad about computers! (cue justification from someone, that will indicate I'm mad).........Under the search "Quarry" picture 44 of Boyles shows the top of a square brick lined shaft. Lord Tramp's pictures show such a shaft although probably a few years on as it is starting to collapse.Switch to picture 49 and there's a terrace of houses overlooking the quarry and it looks (in terms of the lintel shapes just under the eaves) very very close to the terrace on GT's shot.To me the pictures from Leodis and GT may be a few years apart, but pretty much looks like the same place.....??

If you type "boyle's" with the apostrophe, you get four pictures, two of which I've posted. Here's the square shaft you mentioned, Parksider...

...and the terraced houses. It looks very similar - well done, Holmes... However...even though the lintels are the same shape, and the chimney stacks look the same...the windows are closer together in the Leodis pic, and the terrace slopes in the opposite direction. I would also suggest that the quarry seems a little deeper in Grumpy Tramp's pic. What do you think?
