Underground sewers give rise to smells and often these "vents" are put in which are connected into the sewer and hence the smells from the sewer are vented to the atmosphere. If these gases are allowed to build up in the sewers they can give rise to potential explosions.Hope that makes sense !!

I found another one of these mystery poles down Cross Green. I can't make out what it is. I know Mr Brunel likes this sort of thing. So the Google street view is herehttp://snipurl.com/vobsiI just happened to chance sight of it while doing recce on Google street view. That things a godsend. You can get an idea, just travel the street in the Google car to see if it's worth going to look at for real. I'm amazed at some of the remote places that Google car has ventured too

Agreed - definately a camera Phill, quite a lot around like that - note the deterent barbs to foil would be climbers - catapult is all you need!Noticed the design of the new lamp standards in Crossgate, particularly Austhorpe Road, rather reminiscent of the old stench pipes.

Yes it does look like a ball camera doesn't it? And it is just like an old stench pipe. It must be a (very poorly disguised) covert camera to combat the thieving Pikies around that area. It must be the nearby factory/works set up.
My flickr pictures are herehttp://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/Because lunacy was the influence for an album. It goes without saying that an album about lunacy will breed a lunatics obsessions with an album - The Dark side of the moon!
