Tiled Passageway in Pudsey

I'm not sure if I've imagined this over the years, but I'm sure I remember a highly decorated roofed passageway lined with colourful (Burmantofts?) tiles in a yard off Smalewell Road in Pudsey. It was somewhere behind Jowett's grocers shop (now a private residence) about two hundred yards from the Greenside junction, on the right. Do any Pudsey SL residents know of it's existence, or have I dreamt it up!?Thanks,Si.

Cheers Tillydowner! I knew you'd come up trumps!No, I wasn't on the pop! I remember it from about 1970ish. The old Jowett's shop is fairly obvious. It sticks out a bit, and you can tell it's a converted shop. There's a yard entrance just before it, and I think the passage is in there somewhere! Thanks in advance.Si.

If I remember right, though childhood memories can be unreliable, the tiled passage was in this yard somewhere (Beaumont Square.) The yard to the right of it is Newell's Square. The tiles were very varied, with loads of different designs and colours, almost as if it was some kind of sales aid. The converted shop (left) was a grocers called Jowett's in the 60s. My aunt took it over about 1970ish, but it's been a private house for many years. The house extreme right was a sweetie shop in the 60s.

Hi Si I took a look today but sorry to say i failed to find the tiles.Walked into Beaumont Square had a look around no other exit i could only look over peoples gates with no luck i thought there might have been a passage way to exit the square but there is no other way out.If you would like me to look some were else just ask.

Thanks, Tilly. Perhaps it was on private property, and being only young back then, I wandered into someone's house? Either that, or it's been demolished or I'm going doolally-tap!Thanks anyway. PS If you've got time (or the inclination!) could you have a look up Windmill Hill, nearby? (See the Windmill Hill thread.) At least there's definately something there!Thanks in advance.

Will do Si i have seen an old print looking over the valley from Keeper Lane you could see the windmill on the skyline above Fulneck School.I should say it dates from the mid eighteen hundreds the school had gaps in the buildings the school. was added to over time untill it formed the buildings we now know.
