I drove past the Bowling Green in Otley this afternoon, and the only visible representative of the "Army of Workmen" promised for Moinday was one contented looking chappie peering out of the upstairs window of a Portacabin.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Strange but has anyone else noticed that the pub on the tv series "Shameless" is an exact replica of "The Staging Post" as it was, from the exterior. Is this a coincidence or were they built from the same plans maybe.
Leeds born n bred and DJ'd in several Pubs Clubs between 1977 and 1985. ie The Cherry Tree, great times and great people. (Now living in Somerset).

"The Jockey" is a fairly bog-standard 60's estate pub (from the days when housing estates were constructed with things like pubs, schools and shops as an intergral part of the development). The first two series of Shameless were filmed almost entirely on a council estate in Manchester, but following "concerns" with the local residents and the decision to expand the series, there is a purpose built set where the majority of the filming is now carried out, with the original estate only used when necessary. I'm not sure if the pub is still the original one, or if it has been recreated on the set now.The Sportsman on Stoney Rock is a similar pub design.

There's a lot of work going on today, Blakey. Builders all over the place. They've opened up a doorway in the Newmarket end, where a mini-digger has removed the interior floor, exposing the cellar beneath. The poster on the fence which previously proclaimed "opening April 2010" has been patched with "opening June 2010." Somebody has thrown something unsavoury at it...
