Woodhouse moor boundary posts

I'm just wondering the date of these old boundary posts on Woodhouse moor herehttp://www.secretleeds.co.uk/forum/image.aspx? ... =2687Would they pre date 1855 when Woodhouse moor was acquired by Leeds Corporation, or are they after 1855?

Hard to say digs,but the moor is one of the few designated areas left in the country to be able to hold outdoor politcal meetings.So it could well post date 1855 to mark this.Looking at it id go for post 1855,but thats on instinct,nothing else.Si is good at this sort of thing.BTW Phil,your new Avatar is spooky!!

Lol at the avatar thing Chris I would date it pre 1855 myself, i'm just wondering what the general opinion is, anymore info on it e.t.c.Cheers!

Assuming that they would be, nothing is marked on the 1906 map, I would have expected they would be.

Difficult to say, Mr Cool. They look to be sand-cast cast iron, and the rope-work borders look mid 19th century to me, but I'm no expert.

I'm not sure if the ghastly gloss paint makes that boundary marker look new Si.I now have a picture of the other boundary post, the one that interested me anyway! Hopefully the gloss paint will protect the iron and extend the life of the marker (if wire-brushed and under-coated correctly.) Doesn't look as good, though...
