Thank you kindly...It's because the original owner , in Victorian times, was called Henry Scarbrough - - so nothing to do with the town!

I've wondered for thirty years why nobody noticed the typo on that place. Cheers for that!

Possibly Peter and older sister Shirley.? Well I've been telling some big fat porkies. It wasn't Jimmy Tappin so Peter and Shirley could be right. The Jimmy was Jimmy Rhodes, son of Nellie, again from the Clayfields, my long lost cousin in Australia tells me.

Thanks Jancee, our Elaine thought her marbles were going. She knew Jimmy, Joyce And Malcolm Rhodes [who was a copper]. And all customers of the Oak. Only Malcolm was older. The others around her age.Small world indeed.

Does anyone know if this is called the "White"? My partner is an Armley Lass - who tells me she's never heard the 'White Lion' called that - but your theory does seem plausible - perhaps there were other pubs in the vicinity once - a Red Lion perhaps,(there's a Black Lion in Bramley of course ) I was reading an Armley history booklet today - apparently there was a pub called the Red Lion on Canal Road which was demolished in 1910 when the LMS line was widened. This was known as the Bay Horse in later years. Since this wouldn't have been far from the Golden Lion then it would seem plausible this could be the reason for that pub being known as the 'Golden'.

I,m not sure if this yet a lost pub - 'The Hampton'.Its closed and up for Let , hopefully its just temporary.( Incidentally has anyone else noticed that when the Circus or a Feast is in town the people who go out 'distributing' posters always seem to be able to get into empty shops/ pubs etc to put a poster on the inside of a window -as you can see here? Funny that....)

The former Woolpack on Low Lane, Horsforth. According to Christopher Townsley's "Inns, Taverns and Public Houses of Horsforth" this pub closed in 1938 and the licence was transferred to the new Ringway pub nearby.
