Its also home to "Wim the Tim" the Leeds branch of CSC Well thats the silly thing really - you see the Regent is , and has been for many years, an Irish pub - not an Irish themed pub - if you know what i mean. You mean like the Roscoe was an Irish pub - and the pub at the bottom of Scott Hall Road, on the left on the way into Leeds - can't remember its name. But I recall on several occasions drinking at lunchtime (don't do that anymore) with some of my Irish customers in there. One session with Dick Howard (R J Howard & Sons Lowfields Road) comes to mind. We were with a guy called Pat Igoe. It was in the severe winter of 1979 and all their plant was standing because of the weather.

hello all , thks for info on Regent drapesy, and Leeds Lad, Port Macquarie is a great place but its about 2.5hrs up the coast from me.Im down near Newcastle @ Lake Macquarie, thats why I usually put Newcastle to save confusion. Don't rip into the lad, even Aussies mix it up 'specially the postie. But anyway all down the east coast of Australia is good even into cane toad country [Queensland ] and Victoria.I'll see if I can find the regent now its got another name.cheers.

Seems that the Thornhill Arms in Calverley closed suddenly last week. My dad has no info beyond the fact that it's locked, and no notices to say what's happening.

Although when I went past today it was open. Hopefully, panic over!

More than three weeks now so it looks very final doesn't it - mind you, I wouldn't be surprised if the Boys in Blue may have pounced as there was all sorts of "monkey business" and dodgy characters outside the back door all day and they certainly weren't all "just having a Woodbine."
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

It's in this weeks Wharfedale Observer that work is to start this month on the Bowling Green pub and it's due to open in March. Don't hold yer breath! The wire fence round the Bowling Green has been replaced by a big chipboard surround, so is work starting or is it just to give that appearance? It's a graffiti artist's(and I use that term loosely!!!)dream come true! Work has started on The Bowling Green - at last! Scaffolding has appeared around it, and there are skips full of rubbish behind the pleasing-to-the-eye chipboard fence. No graffiti - yet! Latest on the Bowling Green: a sign on the wooden fence has appeared with Wetherspoon's logo on it, claiming the pub will re-open on the 10th of April. Doesn't say which year though...

Looks like its curtains for the Junction on Dewsbury Road - all the inside fittings have been ripped out so looks like it will never reopen as a pub. Inside the pub, mounted above the bar, were parts of some of the earlier stained glass windows - including signs saying 'Junction hotel', 'Smoke room' etc and at least 2 Melbourne 'courtiers'. These irreplaceable artefacts have been ripped out, smashed up and are now dumped in a skip at the back of the pub.2 'courtiers' remain in the windows outside- but there time is probably now very short.
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Is there nothing worth saving in the skip, Drapesy? Or are you restoring the windows yourself?

Reet. Sorry if this has been answered, but I can't find it if it has. This is the question about the pubs on Elland Rd called the Peacock and their ownership by BYB and the also the ownership of the football ground.Has anyone any ideas of what the peacock association is about, regarding the pubs and the original ground name and also which pub was the first to be built I know the present pub is called the old peacock and I think this relates to the very first on on the site. however, the new peacock was demolished in the 70's to make way for the building of the motorway. So, there must have been a (plain and simple) Peacock which predated BOTH.The football ground was built on the old playing fields, called the Peacock playing fields and the land belonged to BYB breweries. Does anyone have a definitive history of the area?Cheers in advance. Ps, the old ground, pre LUAFC ownership was along ER and not as is presently at 90 degrees to it.
