Leeds lost pubs

I fear that the Rock on Albert Road in Morley has joined the ranks of "ex" pubs. It hasn't been open over Christmas, in fact it hasn't been open for weeks. It used to be quite a thriving place up to about 3 years ago.Geoff Gunney the Hunslet RL player had it at one time in the sixties.

The Yeoman in Otley failed to re-open for Christmas, as promised. I fear they have missed the boat.

Slightly off topic, on Christmas Day we stayed with the in-laws elsewhere in the fine county of West Yorkshire and as is traditional the men folk were dispatched to the pub for an hour or so before Christmas dinner.Previous visits to their local pub on Christmas Day have seen it so crammed that the only way to get to the bar was to swap places with the next person and so on.This year there can't have been more than 15 people in the place, with 4 bar staff waiting on. I'd wager that they barely covered staff wages for the lunchtime session.Worrying times indeed for the future of the British pub.

I used to like a swift one on xmas day, but I seem to have fallen for the glass of Champage and something on a Blinni instead, it cant be right ! What was I thinking ??

There were lights on in the Rock yesterday afternoon, and people inside, but it wasn't open.
