To be clear. I agree the Atkinson Grimshaw painting is looking North up the East side of Park Row and the Spire in the distance is the old St Annes Cathederal and may be considered to be in a mist. However given Trojan quoted the text that accompanied the M&S photo when asking about the building in the mist it was apparent to me that it was the building in the mist on that photo not the painting he was enquiring about. We still haven't found this Gothic two storey Bank though. I do have to repeat though I think it is probably Becketts Bank as posted by LS1 on the 1st page of the thread. Certainly Gothic, certainly a bank and other than the occasional window built into the roof has the overall appearance of two floors.

So what is the building with a tower shrouded in mist on your picture? I would have thought the building in the mist was the Yorkshire Bank at the junction of Bishopgate Street and Boar Lane, now a pub Having been away for a few days I should mention that the building referred to here was originally The Yorkshire Banking Company, a constituent of Midland Bank. It had nothing to do with the then Yorkshire Penny Bank, now Yorkshire Bank. It has a double domed roof (not a tower)and I believe is listed.

LS1 wrote: This is the old Becketts bank (thanks Leodis). Is this the one that you are thinking of? I think this must be the one. Looking through a 1963 trades Leeds trades directory I find there were three banks on Park Row.The District Bank at no 27, The National Provincial at no 2, and the Westminster (formerly Beckets) at no 8. I can only assume this is the one and my memory is a little faulty. No change there then
