I need stories & memories about the buildings that you can see from the route of the Metro Free City Bus. People that lived along the route, things that happened along the route...I want to make it into a free historical tour around the city centre. Let's make this into a bit of a competition too. Give us all the best stories about the route, & buildings & sites along the route...The resulting Free Tour will be published somewhere on the internet!

I suppose its just possible that there are those who don't know the full route so can't comment on buildings, sites and events on the route. So lets go on a tour of Leeds.<paragraphs now added for the hard of reading 
>The Bus departs from Stand 3 of the bus station and pulls out by the side of Millgarth Street Police Station before heading up Eastgate through the bookends. It turns left into Vicar Lane with the old Market frontage and then the Corn Exchange on the left before turning right into Duncan Street. It crosses Briggate where Duncan Street become Boar Lane and then turns left into New Station Street and the relatively new Leed City Station bus Interchange. With the Queen Hotel on the left it pulls out into City Square and down Wellington Street only as far as King Street followed by a short section on the city loop up East Parade. It then turns left into Westgate with the imposing Town Hall on the right followed by the less imposing Courts. We then Cross the Inner Ring Road on Park Lane before turning right just before the college onto Hanover Way. This becomes Clarendon Road as the bus passes the entrance to LGI's Clarendon wing. A right turn into Hyde Street leads us to Clarendon Way with the LGI on one side and Leeds University on the other. At the end of Clarendon Waywe croos back inside the inner ring road before there is the new LGI A&E building and the top of Calverley Street. Down Calverley Street with the Nurse's home on the right and Leeds MET (previously the Poly) on the left before turning left into Portland Way with the back of the Civic Hall on the right and A Block of the poly, in the process of demolition, on the left. At the top of Portland Way is the Leeds Met Student Union and building work for the Rose Bowl on the old council car park, which if memory serves hosted the first Leeds Valentine's fair (of the modern era anyway). Almost on the home run now with a right turn onto Woodhouse Lane, whizzing past the Dry Dock on the turn. A few more landmarks with Queens Square and the former Coburg on the left, LCT (formerly Kitson on the right) and the Merrion Centre towered over by Merrion House on the left. Over Great George Street/Merrion Street we are now on Albion Street with K2 (formerly Dudley House) on the right and St Johns centre on the left. Left now into the Headrow and we have the Schofield Centre on the Right and the impressive Building that was previously Alders amd Lewis' to the left. Crossing over the other end of the pedestrainised stretch of Briggate we pass Primark formerly the Odeon. Across Vicar Lane and we are now on East Gate with the Playhouse directly in front and dwarfed by "The Kremlin" behind. Round the roundabout and briefly onto St Peter's Street before using the filter lane to turn right into the station.

Wait til tha' gets thi bus pass!It's All Free (after 0930!) to us dodderers!Right out to Harrogate,Ripon etc! WY-boundaries with someconcessions for cross boundary travel.That should start some caustic comments among the 'underpriviledged' young'uns! 'arry, got an annual metro pass me sen thru work. Costs an arm an' a leg even wi' a 15% discount and 'cos am at work got sod all chance to use it thru the week (other than hither and thither) and on the weekend the wife lets me in the car

Hi Tyke bhoyNot the same when u have to pay for it is it?Used to get weekly passes myself when I was working.(well,employed anyway!). I always liked the 'Kerchinger'tickets. Shame they abandoned them, bit naughty in wet weather or if u'd been chewing 'em, the machine would spit and coughand the driver would shout "Wot the 'ell yer playing at?" and have to clip it manually!We had a chap in the office who would take his lunch on a bus every dinner dinner time and go right to the respective terminus and back so he could get his money's worth out of hisconcession card! One day he was late back clocking on as the bus broke down en route! Made him think when he lost a quarter of an hour's pay!Memories eh?Arry Awk
