I think there was one Ainsleys in Leeds Centre before Thurstons et al opened.

Ah..... the old Sausage roll snobery! Get a grip you lot. A Sausage roll, no matter who it comes from is the cheapest product ANY butcher / baker produces. All the sh..e that would normally be chucked out. Greggs / Thurstons (for the pedantic ) is a decent place. Food is much cheaper than Ainsley's and the quality is not as good, but it's a failry decent place.

IIRC Greggs owned and operated Thurstons for several before changing Thurstons to greggs. For a time in the mid 80's I think.

According to their website they bought Thurstons out in '74.

I remember as a kid (yes I do have a very good memory thank you very much ) going up to the Thurstons bakery at Town end and stopping the bakers from chucking out the spoils. Mmmmmmm, Cream hornes...Now the mystery to why im a fat b***ard is at an end.
