If like you say it doesn't why would you even feel the need to mention it!? Now, if the developer is a competitor.... yup not difficult to work out is it? They refuse to sell and that's the end of that one.A famous case a few years ago was when a chain had outline permission for a large store, they needed to construct a new access road. one small atretch right through the middle was owned by Tesco and for some reason they didn't want to part with it. End of that one too. Ah, the old land bank trick where the land is bought up, often as much to stop the rivals building a store as to facilitate your company building one.Apparently some supermarkets own almost as much land without shops on as with.

The Safeway in Otley was sold to Waitrose by Morrison's, for the same reason mentioned earlier. However, the nearest Tesco's is in Ilkley. A new Sainsbury's opened here recently. As for Tesco's taking over the world, several years ago, I was on holiday in Phuket, Thailand, and as we travelled through the jungle, there was a huge Tesco in the middle of nowhere! Some of the produce was a little different - cling-film covered plastic trays of what looked like rusty pins and needles I assumed were dried fish. Also weird fruit (or veg?) which were lime green with da-glo pink leaves...

I haven't been in a Waitrose for about 16/17 years, when I was on holiday in the Thames Valley. As for Ilkley, best supermarket by far is Booths. Much though it pains me to say so (they're based in Preston) but they are excellent. Especially for good quality bottled ale - and they usually have some of these for around a£1 a bottle. We always go just before Christmas for cheap ale, and their fantastic selection of cheese.

I've heard it said that if you have a Waitrose in your area your property is worth 10% more than if it hadn't! Can this be true?
