It sticks in my mind because the advert used the name as an acronym, which started 'Cool Atmosphere Raving On Late Into Night-time...".Anyone remember where it was (or how the acronym finished!)? I've conducted a bit of historical research, just for you Clankylad. The last 2 words of the acronym are-Exciting,Sophistication.You'vegot me browsing through some old programmes and getting all nostalgic! No idea where Carolines used to be,I was more of a spit'n'sawdust man.

Seem to recall it was on Kirkstall Road in Burley, next to Yorkshire TV and the Rolarena, about 1968-71.

Like you, I was more a spit-and-sawdust man, but there used to be a fair bit of both (and worse) outside Caroline's on a Saturday night!

I think this was an off-licence opened by ex-councillor, author and CAMRA stalwart Barrie Pepper. When I was living in Hyde Park we used to get the No 1 bus through to stock up for parties.

Hi Parksider the off licence on Beeston rd you refer to was owned during the seventies by the late Dennis Pedder (a former member of leeds city council if memory serves correctly)He sold hand pulled beer as well as all the usual beverages and I remember on quite a few occasions going in with an empty pop bottle and asking him to "fill 'er up" although the shop still exists the structure was altered both inside and out, and you would not recognise it, as it once looked in the past. regards Tabby

At the risk of 'jumping the gun' heres the Sandford Arms in the pouring rain. Still open, but on 'Death Row' apparently..

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Hi! Drapesy. Did your partner go to Armley Park School (another building with changed usage) or West Leeds Girls High (being demolished in two years). I went to school with Carol Nelson too. Our other friend, Helen Kirk, lived in the Crown (Tong Road). Does anyone else remember the name of the big building at the back of Thornhill Road petrol station? It was a very posh club/pub when i was a kid and the gardener used to chase us out when we sneaked over the wall

I have also heard that the Sanford is being demolished. Lad who lives there said they are moving out soon. Oh what a shame!
