Surely if a rank holds say 4 cars, the rest piling up are causing an obstruction. The lawful remedy of financial penalty to start with is already there - have it enforced Mr Council Traffic Man! Are the YEP in a timewarp. I started this thread a year ago today and while its nine days since I have been at work and therefore on Boar Lane on the way home the problem has been a lot better in the last month or two. I have put this down to two things. Firstly summer holidays and secondly a recent meeting of taxi drivers and the council at which the council did make some concessions I believe. I had suspected those concessions were down to the taxi drivers making some of their own like not blocking boar lane. The last time I was in Leeds about 16:45 a week last Monday there did appear to be a log jam on the Headrow between Cookridge Street and at least Albion Street and possibly Briggate and beyond. Was that taxi drivers too??

Was that taxi drivers too?? Short answer - yes it was. There are (according to t'YEP) 537 black and white cabs in Leeds and they all appear to be parking up in town during the day, fighting for too few customers and clogging up the ranks. In the article the council claim they are powerless to act - rubbish. They have parking attendants who can issue tickets if an obstruction is being caused, as can the old bill but no-one is bothering to take any action. Drivers can also be moved on.I wonder where all these cabs are on a night, as they are certainly thin on the ground after dark?

I was livid to read in tonight's YEP that a senior representative of the taxis suggests a simple remedy for the problem - KICK THE BUSES OUT OF THE RAILWAY STATION AND LET US HAVE IT ALL. !!If that doesn't take the biscuit for "two finger arrogance" I don't know what does.As far as The Headrow is concerned, how dare the Council claim to be "powerless" ?? - where on earth are the army of "Civil Enforcement Officers" ??     On Tuesday lunchtime I boarded a bus in Albion Street at St. John's Centre and got off it in desperation TEN MINUTES later half way along "Primark"The same "powerless to act" wimpish nonsense allows Private Hire cars to openly park on the bus stops in Albion Street brazenly touting for and inviting illegal trade. What a pitiful farce this is. One of my favourite moves when I see this is to get out a pen and a piece of paper and appear to note the PH plate number - this immediately has more effect than the starting pistol at Brand's Hatch - they are off !!

The Civil Enforcement Officers are busy circling the metered bays around the LGI and around Park Square / York Place looking for people who've gone a couple of minutes over on their ticket.Much easier to slap a ticket on an unoccupied car and far less likely to cause a political incident too.I wonder how long I'd be allowed to park blocking other traffic on The Headrow or Boar Lane?

I thought the council could use the CCTV's to issue tickets for illegal parking. They don't even have to leave their seats.Sorry that only applies to the general public

The simple fact is that there are too many taxi licences in circulation.
