Leeds Lost Schools

Hi im an old lady of lourds, girl i also went to the sacred heart and st benedicts school in 1969/70 I left leeds some years ago just found the site thanks for the blast from the past

Foxwood - OK, mentioned before and it closed as a school a good few years ago, but it had continued educating as the East Leeds Family Learning Centre.But according to tonights YEP, after the discovery that major work was required, it is to be demolished completely with work starting as soon as October with the site planned to be completely cleared by March next year. This is purely speculation on my part, but I wonder how much all that land is worth..?http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 605001.jpI wonder if phill can find a way in before the bulldozers get to work? Strange how the life of 'newer' buildings seems to be only 50 years or so.

If Foxwood gets razed to the ground that'll be all of my old schools gone (Low Road & Coldcotes Primarys). Good shot from Leodis though ... playground front left, tennis courts (ha ha) front right, and the woodwork and metalwork shop sandwiched between 2 of the 3 gyms.When I was there (1966 - 1972) .. there was a rumour somebody has stripped the workshop's roof of its copper one night. Anyone else ever hear this?

This is purely speculation on my part, but I wonder how much all that land is worth..?Makes you wonder what they have in mind for the whole area, used to live in the askets, seems they're nearly all gone, along with asket hill school, another of my past schools, the land must be worth a fortune been so close to the city. Be back in the old dart in a month so i'll go and take a look at foxwood before it disappears . . .

They do I think still have plans to build another school/academy/whatever.The original idea was to use the Fearnville Sports Centre as the site for the one thwy've built on the Foxwood land and the idea of using that site emerged again a few months ago.First memory, first day there - so big, were does it end

I can agree with you there chameleon - my first day was around 25 years ago in 1984 and despite having come from Braimwood (also now gone) which was by no means a small school, Foxwood seemed massive.I'm fairly sure the land would be available for development although given the fact the developers of the EASEL project have had to go cap in hand for government money to continue the project any plans may have to wait a few years.That said, I've got a sneaking feeling the land might be "green belt" as Fearnville fields are - King George V fields or something similar to give them their correct name. Still, I'd rather that site be developed than the real green belt out towards Thorner, Scholes and Barwick.

Bloomin' young'ens The first lesson we had was English. The door opened and this wall turned sideways and ducked a little to get through the door - John West, later to become head of Upper School before moving on, a very respectful Gentleman with whom we all had a marvellous relationship, but then, we did with all of the better staff during my era there.
