Don't know exactly, but I think it was around 1973-4. It stood empty for years and years (someone has told me it was listed, but I'm not so sure) before it was finally demolished recently. I remember going past it after it had closed and it had the old "brown" Tetley signs on it. Believe it or not this leodis pic of the Red Bear was taken less than 10 years ago! 29/10/1999 to be precise. Closed along time ago though - mid/late 70s probably

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

I've just noticed your post so it's possible that you have already had the anwers. I lived not far down the road from there and the Castleton was my local in the early 60's.I also worked at Marston radiators. The Scarborogh hotel not arms I think. You would know the landlord at that time. I think it would be Melvin Broadbent?

The Red Bear was derelict for yonks and became so bad it had to be knocked down before it fell down.I can only recollect going in there the once, talk about stepping back into the past!.That would be around mid sixties. If I remembeer correctly they did not have a licence to serve spirits, and the landlord was a grumpy old git.

Work is progressing apace on the old Curlew Cafe in Otley (opposite the bus-station.) I mentioned before that I'd heard a rumour that it was to re-open as a real-ale bar. Let's hope so. Are there any other "new" pubs opening in Leeds, bucking the trend of mass closure?

Some activity at the former Granville later co-op which has been closed for some time.Front and rear doors open and rubbish/tips in car park

Looks like The Rising Sun on Kirkstall Road is doomed - currently closed and on the market for £175,000 (seems cheap when you look at the size of the place). The agents report no interest at all in buying it as a pub with anyone interested looking at "other uses" according to tonights YEP.

Hi stutterdog,I asked that question a couple of years ago and was given a comprehensive reply. The landlord at the time I frequented the place was Tony Nelson, after the Scarborough closed he moved to the George IV on Commercial Road.Do you remember another pub on the right-hand side going into Leeds called the Oak (or summat!)?

Hi stevief! Yes I remember the Oak at the end of Oak rd.There is a photo on Leodis .My brother used this pub in the late 60,s and early seventies. The landlord was Bill Pope if I remember. He moved to the Bedford Arms but I forget the name of the village.
