New Arcade - Prince Charles Arcade

You learn something new every day on S/L.I have never heard of that before. I bet those developers will be even more annoyed with themselves. I did wonder if it had any relation to the length of time it would take before the work is completed!!!

I noticed the absence of an eye-sore this weekend.Market Street Arcade has been boarded up (for re-developement) I've no idea how long it's been in this state.

When it was the schofields Centre, the bit that took you thru from Lands Lane to King charles Street was called King Charles Walk. Excellent pics! Thank you.I seem to recall falling in and out of that place as a young man. Does the City not claim a link with King Charles and isn't there some legend connecting the original oak tree in Headingley with King Charles either I or II ?

It had been allowed to deteriorate into a right dump. The arcade that is, not the cafe!That said, in the current economic climate it may well be closed for some time to come. Anyone know if it's a public right of way, or if the developer has closed it legitimately? I presume that all legal niceties will have been followed!I'm not sure what the plans for it are, but it certainly seemed to suffer from a lack of passing trade although I can remember it being fairly busy in the 80's with a varied selection of shops.Another little area that wasn't really on the way to / from anywhere perhaps with most footfall sticking to Kirkgate or Duncan Street?

It was supposed to link with Trinity thus its decline for so long, as long as the temporay shops lasted in the old Trinity Centre!

And it smelled of wee. Kay Mellor filmed her drama (The Good Theif i think it was called) about a shoplifter there. The liveryof the imaginary shop, Brown 7 Jacksons was still there right to the end.There were people ripping out the innards of the shops afew weeks ago, seems pointless to pay people to do that if all work the work had no purpose.

just peeped through the tarps at the new arcade. Looks very swish, pity they'll find few tenants at the moment.
