Hi, Stay Lucky starring Dennis Waterman and Jan Francis, was Filmed in and around Leeds in the late 80s and early 90s.I can also remember Jan Francis in another YTV programme filmed in Leeds, but can not think of the name or if it was a one off or series.I do recall her going to the building where st Patricks boxing club was. Also there was a lot of snow about and one of the shots was the fly-over at the Woodpecker junction. It was dusk and the snow was falling heavily. It must have been again in the late 80s early 90s.
Go the Rhinos.

Ward was the last VC winner to have his award presented by Queen Victoria. The film last about two minutes and was shown on the recent BBC 2 series on Mitchell & Kenyon The Mitchell and Kenyon film definately had a 1904 rugby game between Leeds and Hunslet (Hunslet won obviously), but the medal award must have been earlier as Queen Vic died in 1901.Of course the oldest of all has got to be Louis Le Princes film of horse drawn trams on Leeds Bridge. The first moving picture ever made.ps Where was the opening shot of 'the gaffer' filmed. Where Bill Maynard throws the parking ticket into the back of the car?pps The first Secret Leeds T-shirt should be 'DAVID JASON IS A JAMPOT'

Charles Ward won his VC for action on the 26 June 1900 as listed below. The British Film Institute states that the interview was carried out in February 1901. I would imagine this would have been the date he returned to Leeds. Sorry for any misunderstanding. He was 22 years old, and a Private in the 2nd Battalion, The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, British Army during the South African War (Boer War) when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC: On 26 June 1900 at Lindley, South Africa, a picquet of the regiment was surrounded on three sides by about 500 Boers and the majority of them were either killed or wounded. Private Ward volunteered to take a message asking for reinforcements to the signalling post about 150 yards away. He was eventually allowed to go, although it seemed certain that he would be shot, and he managed to get across through a storm of bullets. Having delivered his message, he returned to his commanding officer across the fire-swept ground, and was severely wounded, but his gallant action saved the post from capture.Last winner of the VC to be decorated by Queen Victoria. He later achieved the rank of Company Sergeant-Major.Born in Leeds, Yorkshire, he died at Bridgend, Glamorgan and is buried in St Mary's Churchyard, Cardiff.

Isn't it strange that as a natural and historic home of film Leeds does pretty much nothing to celebrate or commemorate this. The Film and TV museum is in Bradford and the film "festival" is less of an event than Chris Moyles latest fart joke.I can't decide whether it's just a shame or a chuffin scandal. We host nothing here to show off our great city. We don't have a racecourse, a motor racing track, a cycling track, an arena, a sporting tournament of any note or profile, an arts festival, a high profile road race, nothing of any significance at all.Surely someone needs to ge their finger out and attract something. Do we think it will happen?
Ravioli, ravioli followed by ravioli. I happen to like ravioli.

Do we think it will happen? Summed up perfectly.. I keep banging on about this!! I'll just bring up the poxy transport situation too! There now going to fob us off with TROLLEY BUSSES! They were outmoded, unreliable, unflexible & carried no more than an ordinary bus half a centuary ago! This will compliment the FTR purple bus that requires a crew of 3 to operate a very long pretend supertram thing that carries no more people than a one man operated bus. When will Leeds stop been the joke city and lead the way for once??
