That is unless the new owners have a genuinely different idea for the establishment and with Real Ale pubs being just about the only sector of the pub industry that are anywhere near prospering this venture looks like it might just have a fighting chance of survival. Hardly Yeadon's only real ale pub with The Tarn up the hill doing six most of the time. The New Inn also has two on, and indeed the Aviator has a couple on. Whoever is running the Louse has taken a good six months to get up and running, with, according to Mike at the Tarn, not much reference to his neighbours.

I've seen bars with literally noone in but there was always someone propping up the bar in the D&D. But as has been said on gig nights/afternoons the place gets rammed to the rafters so they must've taken a fair bit of cash behind the bar. Looks like I'll be frequenting the Grove from now on You can have the place "rammed to the rafters" but after paying the band you can be out of pocket. It's the overheads that are killing tenanted and leasehold pubs. Pubs like the Palace are owned by the pub co's Michael

It seems like centuries ago that the Duck and Drake was a very dowdy and faded "Brougham Arms." The sign had a picture of a "Brougham" with horses. In the large left hand room was a tiny raised stage where many elderly folks in dire straits would give a song or two - more a sad case of "Wish I Had been" rather than "Wannabe." Although the place was dated and neglected it had a nostalgic atmosphere in its own little corner of Central Leeds, and it was an era that I remember with affection.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

The Pointer Inn, Sheepscar Street South was reportedly "gutted by fire" at the weekend according to tonights YEP (can't find the story on the website).Apparently the pub has been closed for over a year, although there were still tenants in the flats above all of whom were safely rescued with the fire being confined to the former bar area. I think it's probably safe to say this won't be re-opening now.1961 pic from Leodis (the pub is to the right of the picture)
