I can hardly bear to write this,I usually call in the Duck and Drake on Sunday evening but tonight it was closed.I walked on to the Palace and was told by the big, bearded guy who runs the concerts in the D&D that the place had been cleared of furniture and there wasn't a barrel in the cellar. He blames the owners and I think he knows more than he is prepared to impart at this time.Surely this flagship can't be sinking?

Gumf.I went past the West End in Kirkstall and it was shut and deserted and did a double take. Then I remembered it was only 10.45 am.

Hi,Just wanted to mention that sadly The Pointer pub was set on fire in the early hours of this morning. It looks like it was contained to the bar area only but it's in a sad state. B x

The Bowling Green in Otley has new boarding over the door and windows. According to the local paper, it will be refurbished starting this September and will open early next year as...you guessed it...a Wetherspoon's!

As its nearly three years (or is it four ??) since the expiry date for planning objections I was becoming resigned to the fact that JDW had changed their minds.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I have been a regular in the D&D for probably most of its 20oddyrs existance and this is sad news. I passed last night and it is very sad view as the pub is now shuttered and boarded up,not an uncommon sight these days as this thread clearly shows. I too was in The Palace on Sunday and I was told the place has already been stripped of all the real ale pumps and coolers.Rumour has it that the place will become a bar not unlike The Bridge or The New Penny?.I am surprised it stayed open so long with the way its been run over the past few years..I am convinced if it wasn't for "the big, bearded guy" putting on regular bands it would have closed yonks ago.So yes it certainly looks like the flagship has sunk!

I was there a couple of weeks ago when they had some coppers inspecting the place, no idea why. Where to go now? Saw the place boarded up on the way home last night. I feel like we need a help group...

I've only been going for the past 2 years but in that space of time its become the place we always go to, and it never seemed that quiet to me. I've seen bars with literally noone in but there was always someone propping up the bar in the D&D. But as has been said on gig nights/afternoons the place gets rammed to the rafters so they must've taken a fair bit of cash behind the bar. Looks like I'll be frequenting the Grove from now on
