In the 60's the landlord at the Goodman on Whitehall Rd nr Petty's was called Walter Winterburn. He moved form there to the Spotted Cow at Drighlington about 1968.The next time I saw him he was on the buses out of Bramley Depot driving!in the mid 70's! He died about 12 years ago.

I wonder why the 4 pubs in Farsley are all still open and prospering? When pubs in Pudsey ,Armley and Leeds are closing. Does it say anything about the people who live here?

Ironically, the pub that closed down in Halton, some time ago, is very soon to be rebuilt as a minis Tesco's The Traveller's? Not sure of it's name, but it's next to fish shop over the road from the co-op, next to Matalan. Been derelict for over a year now. Yes, that was the Traveller's Well, it's soon to ba a mini Tesco's. Like the area actually needs one!!! Another nail in the coffin of local shops etc!!

Hi, only just joined this site, like to say thank you to all who have contributed so far, great stories and info. Dont know if anyone has mentioned these pubs, The Friendly at Holbeck, used to be near The Kings Arms, and The Nevin Tavern I think it was called, near the Goodman at Hunslet. You used to be able to buy draught beer in your own jug/glass from Stannards off license just past the New Inn on Dewsbury Road and there used to be an off license which was just an adapted terrace house really, at the top of Hopewell View at Middleton Old Village, the door opened up into a tiny space with a polished wood counter with hand pumps attached and a small display of sweets, crisps etc. And last but not least, blinkin eck, so many questions so little access to interweb, does anyone remember, an i know its nowt to do wi pubs, but does anyone remember Ruddicks van goin round Miggy and Belle Isle during the 70's n 80's? he were a lifeline that guy, shudda been knighted.

I can't tell you much about the Friendly - but the Nevin's hotel has been mentioned before - not sure where exactly. Anyway it was at 58 Goodman street - this Leodis pic is from 1959 and shows it to be a Dutton's house - probably Kirkstall Brewery originally therefore.

The shutters have been taken down, after many years, at the George IV at Kirkstall. Don't know why......

The closed Woolpack in Otley has been surrounded by those huge concretre blocks usually found around motorway road-works. Looks even worse than the "temporary" fencing around the Bowling Green.
