PLAY=FULLI didn't get to leeds til 1989 and I don't remember this at all - when did it go? Here's a shot from an almost identical spot I took only a few days ago - the Merrion Hotel sign looks to be the same. I dont remember the Dortmunder but I remember this as a 'bierkellar' that I think was relaunched several times . It was the Hofbrauhaus for several years and used to serve litre 'stiens' of lager - a great contribution to sensible drinking for the youth of Leeds! at one stage they also had strippers and topless bar maids (not that I ever went when it was like that, of course, I've just been told about it. honestly.)This is a two for one pic - as there's another former pub shown. I believe it was originally called the General Wade - but I may be mistaken. often known as the 'threepenny bit' its gone through a lot of name changes. The window signs now say 'Junction 7 lounge bar' - but it looks to be closed.[Apologies for the poor photo - there was so much traffic on wade Lane it took ages to even get this!] Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I'm at work and having to sneakily whizz through the posts before my boss catches me! I have to pass this pub (the bizarre shaped one) a couple of times a day and it appears to be linked to the Merrion hotel by a walkway (which is maintained). I always assumed it was a part of the hotel and imagined it to be peopled by low grade rock stars and out of town businessmen! I havent seen a ground floor entrance as yet, but i'll have a look this morning and see what I can see.

As above it was the General Wade, then became The Nautical Wheel after that I'm lost. It is/was owned and run by the Merrion hotel and used to get the odd pop/rock star in there if staying at the hotel.
Sit thissen dahn an' tell us abaht it.

I was driving so didn't have time for a proper look but I wouldn't bet on it being there much longer. The last days of another fine Tetleys pub.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

The uncaring destruction of the British Pub. Is it any wonder people are saying that the Labour Party has abandoned it's heartlands?

This thread is a bit long, so I may have missed it. Anyone remember THE FALCON on Great Wilson St. There was also a pub nearby on Hunslet Lane past the Salem Church outbound and the site became our office carpark opposite George Porteus & Sons where I started work many moons ago. Sorry, but never actually knew it and I can't remember its name. It was pulled down in the 50's I think.

Here's a Leodis pic from 1959 of the Falcon, Railnut.I think the pub on Hunslet lane you're thinking of was the 'Scarboro' Castle'
