Leeds lost pubs

Don't know if this has already been mentioned, the Wise Owl on Iveson Approach is down.Only just gone too by the looks of it.There isn't another pub within some distance, I was saddened to see the former Welcomb Inn is also shut but at least the loacls can wander down the hill to the Fox and Hounds or to the club at the bottom of Woodnook drive

I didn't know the former Welcomb(now Bedford Arms) was closed - it was open a few weeks ago when I took this pic,I think it may have crept under the radar but the Cranmer Bank, (which has a 'Melbourne' mosaic in the entrance) is closed and shuttered.

Hi SundownerThe cinema in Domestic Street (just a bit further up from the Volunteer) was called The Gainsborough, but locally it was always known as The Gaini (as with The Lemi). The first film I ever saw unaccompanied by my Mam was The Beatles' Hard Day's Night, probably 1964. Behind the Gaini was a strange looking building with low brick walls and a thick, flat concrete top. I always assumed that it was a wartime air-raid shelter, but this was never confirmed to me. As kids, we'd always go play on this thing after the Saturday Matinee. There were stairways at each end, but the doors were securely locked and we never managed to get inside.

Thanks again Tarkus the Gaini was not my local cinema that would be the Strand on Jack Lane.I will not go on about cinemas on this thread as its the lost pub thread .All the best.

Heard a rumour today that the Golden Fleece on Churwell Hill is going to be knocked down for a Tesco Express.What about the Melbourne Courtier above the door?

I passed The Bridgefield at Cross Green (or is it East End Park?) tonight and the roof has gone - not just the tiles, but the lot.It's been shut for years but it looks like this may well be the final knockings. I was driving so didn't have time for a proper look but I wouldn't bet on it being there much longer. The last days of another fine Tetleys pub.

The window signs now say 'Junction 7 lounge bar' - but it looks to be closed.[Apologies for the poor photo - there was so much traffic on wade Lane it took ages to even get this!] Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I'm at work and having to sneakily whizz through the posts before my boss catches me! I have to pass this pub (the bizarre shaped one) a couple of times a day and it appears to be linked to the Merrion hotel by a walkway (which is maintained). I always assumed it was a part of the hotel and imagined it to be peopled by low grade rock stars and out of town businessmen! I havent seen a ground floor entrance as yet, but i'll have a look this morning and see what I can see.
