The abutted wall looks later. It sits on top of an earlier, lower wall with it's coping stones intact. Is that a coal-hole/night-soil opening in the newer bit? There doesn't seem to be much room for stairs to the upper floor inside. Also, the tower appears to have (or had) a telephone!PS What are those blue things?

I was told on Saturday, that this tower holds a water tank to increase water pressure so that the then new houses on Billam's Hill could be adequately supplied.

Do you main the terraces behind in the picture on Bridge Avenue/Farnley Road or the houses up the hill?Bridge Avenue and Farnley Road are supplied from a 1930's main that runs down the back street. However there is a private main running along the back of Bridge Avenue dating from the 1920's, although this doesn't connect with the tower. Maybe it once did? There are currently no shown mains connections with the tower. The tower is the right height to supply the upper floor of the terrace, acting as a large header tank?

I don't know which houses, Cardi, but your theory sounds good.
