I have a vague memory of reading that Leodis was the name of a Romano-Celtic god. I think this is probably a fanciful notion - I believe it was in one of those turn of the century Yorkshire histories by someone like Harry Speight. But does anyone have a better source for the name? FWIW, William Camden gives the Anglo-Saxon name as Loytes http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/text/ ... en&c_id=25

You can take the lad out of Leeds - but you can't take the Leeds out of the lad.
