There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

The Crown at the bottom of Tong Road is open again. The Old Roundabout now has boards up.Anyone know what's happening at the Barleycorn in Scholes? it doesn't appear to be closed but all the signage has been taken down.

They are completely separate - about 100 yards apart(the Beech pub is in between the 2). Probably the Cinema was named after the pub as the original Crown Cinema was right opposite the Crown pub - at the bottom of Oldfield Lane.

It never was demolished of course, it closed as a pub but the building is still there. When you say 'Nowt's new' you are right in the sense that there have always been pubs closing for one reason or another - however there is now a crucial difference. Until recently there has been an 'ebb and flow' of closures of old inns for various reasons - countered by new pubs opening: either elsewhere or as direct replacements /rebuilds. (The Woolpack for instance was replaced by the nearby Woodside tavern). But now this is rarely happens and so the number of pubs is decreasing dramatically.
