When I first started going down there, they still used to have what I thought of as proper bouncers, humongous black guys, dressed in the penguin suits who looked like they could snap you in half as soon as look at you - not suprisingly very little trouble then!Once you got to know them they were all great lads. Also some of the live groups that played down there - I appeared as a dodgy bass guitarist in a few of them. Great days - If I knew than what I know now etc etcMemories of getting very drunk then to the nastiest kebab shop you could find for a large donner with extra chilli. Any other day you'd cross the road to avoid them but ot 3 on a sunday morning they were heaven. Maybe we should have a lost Kebab shop thread!!! So what was the band then Ads, we maybe getting closer to your ID.
Sit thissen dahn an' tell us abaht it.

Whilst It was a long time a go and buried under a haze of much beer drinking, I was with a group called Python which metamorphised into Cream Soda. We played at Scrumpies quite a few times supporting Leeds stalwarts Factory on occasion, as well as playing there in our own right. The live groups were usually on a Thursday or Friday night. Another favourite spot to play was the old Biekeller on Thursday rock nights. We were a mix of self written and classic covers - DC, Sabbath etc

There are only 10 types of people in the world -those who understand binary, and those that don't.

Bloody hell, you played Scrumpies the first night I ever went there! Thursday 16th April '87 (the week after me 17th birthday). I'd love to say I remember your set, but I had six pints of cider and had to be poured onto the bus...

Does anyone remember a band called Best Friends that used to play the Leeds pub circuit in the 70's. They played funk type stuff and I think they might have been a York band. I used to go see them regularly in my 'yoof' and I often wonder what became of them all. I seem to remember 'got to get you into my life' being in their repertoire. Lots of brass and noise. Brilliant band tho!

I've been racking my brains for the last few months now, does anyone remember what the bar was called behind the Merrion Centre which is now called Stick or Twist in the 80's. It used to be joined on to the Ritzy nightclub before the Ritzy moved inside the Merrion Centre. The it used to be joined to the Ritzy, and you used to be able to drink in the bar and then go through the door into the Ritzy, usually trying your very best to get through without paying, but it never usually worked, you either ended up paying or being kicked out and going down to Top Cats or Madisons.
