http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 419.jpThis article in the YEP says that the owners of the Queens Hotel want to develop the hotel to add more rooms. The good news is that the impresive frontage will be left alone, with all the work going on on the rear of the hotel where it backs onto the station.Perhaps they might find some tunnels during the works?

I think these are above a utility annexe at the 'back entrance' so to speak aren't they? They'll certainly get wet feet if they go downwards!

ISTR a press report years ago of a guest at the Queens leaping from a bedroom in a suicide attempt - he'd probably just seen his bill - and landing on someone, a young woman I think, in the street below. He survived, but she was killed. Anyone else recall this?

Yes I do.My memory is not what I was, but I believe the person who jumped out of the room landed on a car and killed the person inside and he survived. If I remember correctly he had a flashback from a previous acid trip and that was the explanation for the jump from the window in the Queens Hotel.I could have got this so wrong, but that is what I seem to remember!

Ah yes, you're right!Coincidental that you're on Tyneside, as this smacks of the famous scene in "Get Carter" - the real one, not the lousy remake - where Michael Caine chucks Brian Mosley off the multi-storey. He lands on a car.

The Get Carter car park is due for demolition shortly. Thank the Lord. A more ugly building it's hard to imagine.

They person who jumped out landed on the car of one Mr Hilton.I can't remember Hilton's first name, but he used to own a chain of newsagents around Leeds. These mostly became Buckles, after going through a couple of differant owners.Mr Hilton survived but was badly injured and paralysed. The operation to repair some of the damage, his neck vertebra was extremely risky and he was aware of th elimited chances of success. In the event he died as a consequence of the operation. At least part of this story will be wrong, but not the main part, this must have happened around 1970ish

Sorry, cnosni, and I'm possibly being a bit thick here, but I don't understand your question or the emoticon.Coincidental in that the Leeds incident (fact) reminded me of Get Carter (fiction). and that Samson is located on Tyneside which is where Get Carter was filmed.
