My abiding memory is being in there at the same time as Ian Botham and Alan Lamb - they were drinking pints of Old Peculiar, and due to face the West Indies terrible foursome the following day. Can't really remember how well or ill they did. sorry you've got me there. are you sure it was in Otley?? or , maybe you're thinking of the Hunter's Inn ???? Theakston's pub on rhs as you came down the hill into Otley? From Harrogate? - (in which case; yes - the Hunter's Inn at Leathley)
there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Got me too, Trojan, although I've heard tales of Ian Botham drinking in The Junction and the Rose and Crown. They used to sell (still do?) OP in The Junction, but your description sounds like the Hunter's, as Drapesy says.I'll recce The Royalty this weekend.

Dont think it has been mentioned yet, but The Spite closed a couple of weeks ago. I know it's outside the Otley boundary, but I still think of it as an Otley pub.Went past The Royalty yesterday. Although it looks very tired, I think it is still open.

But as you came into Otley from Bramhope, it was on the right hand side used to have a Theakston's sign above the door.

There's the Dyneley Arms at the corner of Pool Bank New Road and there might have been a pub somewhere around the mills as you enter Otley but I can't visualise one.

Theoretically Simon (cfb)If you come down the Chevin from the Airport past Chevin Country Park towards the cattle market... on the rhs at the bottom is the Junction, selling OP by the bucketful - depends on Trojan's memories I suppose but I'm choosing this option. :-)

Obviously my memory is playing tricks. I think there may be a (or have been) a Theakson's pub in Dewsbury called the Poacher.

Last time I was in, the new landlord was full of big ideas, but can't have been there longer than six weeks. There is work going on at the old Curlew Cafe, so maybe it is going to open as a bar(?) I heard the last time it closed (when Sugar Street Bistro) the reason was health and safety. Apparently, the rear fire-exit wasn't wide enough for a wheelchair. Presumably, this is being widened. However, if there was a fire and a disabled person was in there, I'd leave the bloody wheelchair and carry them out - much faster. BTW, still nothing happening at the Bowling Green.

The Bowling Green is a real mystery Si - its totally unlike Wetherspoon' to hang about with any project, and they've had this pub now for almost three years !! I think I might drop them yet another E Mail and ask for a candid update.
